2016 Playoff Results

Semi-Finals … 

7/30 … A’s 4 – Yankees 3 … The A’s scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh off of Yankee RHP Seth Lamando (SUNY Cortland) to erase a 2-1 deficit. Taylor Digilio (St. Lawrence) led off the 7th with a double and scored the tying run on a Tyler Bruno (Iona) clutch, two out single.  Corey Savage (SUNY Brockport) closed out the scoring with a 2 run triple to right field. The Yankees picked up another run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI sac fly by Aron Fried (Quinnipiac). A’s Starter Jake Van Detta (SUNY Dutchess) went the distance in picking up the win, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with 5 K’s. Joe Credendino (Manhattan) had a long 2 run triple for the Yankees.

7/30 … A’s 1 – Yankees 0 … The Yankees’ Andrew DiNardo (SUNY New Paltz) and A’s’ Zach Zottola (Ithaca) engaged in an old fashioned pitchers duel with Zottola coming out on top by a score of 1-0. Patrick Schetter (SUNY Cortland) doubled in the only run of the game in the top of the 6th. Zottola picked up the complete game shutout allowing 4 hits and striking out 4. DiNardo gave up 1 run on 3 hits but was tagged with the “L”. 

7/30 … Knights 3 – Pirates 2 … The Knights jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and held on for the 3-2 victory. Blake Keenan (Mt. St. Mary) had 2 run scoring singles for the Knights. RHP Brendan White (Siena) went the distance, allowing 2 runs with 3 K’s in picking up the “W”. Vince Rebar (Marywood) knocked in both Pirate runs with a triple. RHP James Wetter (St. Bonaventure) took the loss for the Pirates. Game ended at home plate with Knights’ CF Greg Cavaliere (Rhode Island) delivering a perfect strike to gun down potential tying run. 

7/30 … Knights 12 – Pirates 3 … The Knights roared back from a 3-0 deficit and won going away. Vince Rebar (Marywood) doubled in 2 and James Goetz (Marywood) singled in 1 run as the Pirates plated 3 in the 1st inning. The Knights banged out a series of hits in the top 5, highlighted by a Jon Lindeau (Castleton State) 2 run double, to jump out to 7-3 lead… and never looked back. Alex O’Connor (Ave Maria) also had a 2 run double for the Knights. RHP Chris Wolfe (Mt. St. Mary) went the distance for the Knights and picked up the win. Justin Haddix (Marywood) was tagged with the loss for the Pirates.

 

 Finals … 

8/2 … Knights 2 – A’s 1 … The Knights scored twice in the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 outs to stun the A’s 2-1. Alex O’Connor (Ave Maria) led off the 7th with an opposite field double, went to 3rd on a double steal and came home on a strike out/wild pitch. Alex Volpi (Holy Cross) delivered the walk off single, scoring John Santana (Mt. St. Mary) who had walked and moved to second on the back end of the double steal. Prior to the 7th inning, A’s RHP Chris Palmiero (RPI) was tossing a gem of a game, allowing only one hit through the first 6 innings, fanning 7 before taking the loss. Winning pitcher, Joe Conti (Vassar) was equally impressive for the Knights, allowing only 1 run through 7 innings with 5 K’s. Taylor Digilio (St. Lawrence) had a couple of hits for the A’s; Patrick Schetter (SUNY Cortland) had an RBI double.

8/2 … Knights 4 – A’s 2 … The A’s scored 2 in the bottom of third on a sac fly and an RBI single from Patrick Schetter (SUNY Cortland). The A’s tied it up in the top of the 4th on a long 2 run bomb to center by Alex Volpi (Holy Cross). The game remained tied until the 7th with Greg Cavaliere (Rhode Island) singling in a run and scoring on a Nick Pacifico (RPI) triple. Winning pitcher Bryan Johnson went 6 innings before giving way to Rick Burroni (Northeastern) who picked up the Save. The A’s southpaw, Chad O’Hara (SUNY Dutchess), took the “L” despite throwing the ball very well (2 runs, 7 k’s). 

8/3 … Knights 5 – A’s 2 … The Knights scored runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th innings in jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Greg Satriale (SUNY Binghampton) and John Santana (Mt. St. Mary) each had 2 rbi’s. Alex O’Connor (Ave Maria) doubled and Drew Coisson (Arcadia) tripled for the Knights. RHP Brendan White went the distance while picking up the win. A’s starter Jake Van Detta (SUNY Dutchess) was the pitcher on the short side. A’s infielder Patrick Schetter (SUNY Cortland) had an rbi single.
